Joan Gutermuth's legal practice focuses on the areas of commercial litigation,
nursing home defense, insurance coverage, and general liability defense. She
has litigated a variety of business disputes concerning shareholder rights,
employment relationships, breach of contract, fraud and unfair business practices,
and debtor-creditor, construction, and Uniform Commercial Code issues.
Joan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State
University in 1994 and is a 2001 cum laude graduate of Georgia State
University College of Law. While in law school, Joan was a member of the Law
Review. She attended law school on a full scholarship as an Atlanta School Fellow.
Following graduation from law school, Joan practiced in the areas of corporate
finance and banking in a large Atlanta law firm, while also serving as a
'Saturday Lawyer' for the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, providing
pro bono legal services to low income Fulton County residents.
A member of the State Bar of Georgia, Joan is also involved with the Georgia
Association for Women Lawyers and is an associate member of the Georgia Health
Care Association. She is admitted to all Georgia state trial courts and the
U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia.
Joan and her family are active in their neighborhood, Church and school community
in Atlanta, Georgia, where her daughter, Ellie, attends Holy Spirit Preparatory School.
